TIMING BELT PEP RALLY! LET'S DOOOO IIIITTTTT!!
ok.. sorry that sounded kinda ghey... but im fighting with myself about my timing belt change... some of you read my other post about my timing belt job... so i wont go into the whole thing again.. but to sum it up.. audi stealership checked and i have the updated tensioner.. i have checked my belt.. teeth are nice and long.. with no visible cracks.. which leads me to believe my t-belt has been replaced.. i've had the car for 2 months.. it has 75k miles... and i have no service history..
SOOO...
alot of you have said to get the t-belt job done just to make sure.. and i agree... BUUTTT.. im battling with taking it to the local Euro shop and payint $750 to have it done.. OR... buying the $275 ECS kit and doing it myself...
i need you guys to pep me up and convince me to do this myself... on a mechanical scale of :
novice..2..3..4..5..6..7..8..9..master
i give myself a 5 ..
im not new to cars... and have done many suspension jobs... engine tinkering .. the usual mod stuff.. but never a timing belt job.. i did however replace the waterpump and thermostat in my last car (240sx) .. without any problems..
i know i can do it.. but i cant convince myself to bite the bullett and take on this DIY ..
i've read the DIY on audiworld.com about 5 times now..... and still am leery of doing it ... but even more uncertain that i want to shell out $750 to have it done..
come on i need a PEP TALK!!! WOOT.. cheerleaders would help..
.. and a shameful act of self indulgence.. i like this pic.. so you have to look at it now.. .. its large and in charge..

well if it were me i wouldnt worry about it, its not the belts that fail its the tennsioners and if you have the updated one it most likely had the t belt done cuz they never put updated ones on at production, then again the t belt is something im not even remotly worried about cuz I only got 17,000 on my car
lol, well at least your car is one color
.... but mine will be too, very soon i hope

I'd say DIY but if your having doubts think about this...if you do it right yay you just saved 750, if you fock it up your down 5000 grand...if they do it right your golden no worries, if they fock it up they owe you an engine which you'll probably get with less miles so you still win either way. I probably made your decision even harder lol
i have plenty of time.. im a bartender.. i only work Tuesday Friday Saturday & Sunday.. and im always off during the day..
i'm just trying to convince myself to spend the money to do it.. b/c i THINK.. its been done.. all signs point to the fact that it has.. i'm gonna go by the dealership i bought the car from tommorrow and see if they have any service records.. its possible they had it done .. it has the new style tensioner.. and the belt looks/ feels new.. the print on the belt is still pretty clear.. the belt doesn show any signs of wear..
see the thing is.. me and the gf are about to move into a house in about 3 weeks when our lease on the apt is up.. at that time im gonna get my $750 deposit for the apartment back.. it would be nice to throw on suspension.. which.. by they way.. I WILL be doing myself..
aaarrrggggh decisions [:@]

well....
its always best to do your own work. that way you know whats been done to your car and
you know whats going on with it. should something go wrong later on you are more familiar
with your own car.
im gonna be doin mine soon too. i have been checking out ecs. i look at it like maybe the car
will feel faster afterwards with the lightened pully and new tensioners. hahah. its whatever.
good luck though.
