Default timing belt question

I noticed on some parts sites that there are 2 different timing belt applications for my 98' a4 1.8t quattro. How do i know which one to use?

Are you talking about the two "300" links? The top one says its for a car without the updated tensioner, the lower is for a car with the tensioner.

Have you looked at ECSTuning.com? I bought all my timing belt goodies from them. They even have an "ultimate timing belt kit" with everything you need (water pump, gaskets, idle pullies, etc).

always replace the water pump impellar if you have a 1,8t... The 1.8's timing belt runs the the water pump, so if the impellar goes bad it will throw/shred the belt and you are in a world of hurt.

Your engine code is stamped on the head, not sure but it may be under the engine cover with the 4 rings, or it may be just below it (towards the front of the car)
