Default timing question

yo, so i thought that i saw some smoke coming from my belt by the water pump pulley. i was wrong took off the timing protection covers and located some rubber shavings - im seeing a very smooth pulley that looks like it should turn not turn. it seems like its touching something so its not spinning creating friction - my only assumption is that the engine mount has failed and engine has fallen forward a bit - or ? cause nothing else seems out of place - can this happen? how much is it to fix and how hard is it to fixx.? thanks

Default RE: timing question

No but the bearing for the pully can lock up causing it not to spin. The end result will be a broken timing belt. Have that looked at asp.

Default RE: timing question

Have it towed. As the person above stated, it sounds like a bearing has locked up, either the idler wheel, or something else. Either way, if it is the water pump or timing belt idler wheel, the result will be that your timing belt will snap and your engine will be toast. Consider yourself lucky that you noticed.

For the timing belt kit you are looking at 270 for parts and anywhere from 300-600 for labor. If you ignore it, you are looking at 2500 dollars or more for engine repair.
