Default Tire size

Just gota 1999 Audi A4 1.8 Quattro, 96000km,and wondering what type of tire size is good. Tires on this car now is Dunlop SP8000-205 55 R16. I'm not sure what happen because when Isearched the internet, the tire companies suggested an R15 rims not R16-why, is this because it's a Sport Package which R16 is upgraded. I would like to go R17 or something that in the middle where I don't loose too much power.

Also, I might be interested in adding chip, any suggestion what kind, price, where (closure to Toronto) and how to install it? Hope not in the K&K$ cause I rather put into my mortgage.

Thanks, John

Default Tire size

the way tire sizes work is the first number in your case is 205 refers to the width of the tire basically if you look at you tire from the front. The second number 55refers to the profile or height of the tire basically how much tire you see when you look at it from the side of the car. the last nuber 16 refers to the size of the wheel/rim so in order to goto 17's youd have to buy new wheels as well as tires as you would if you buy the 15's the tirecompanys suggest. I beleive the reason they sugest that is thats the standard size. I would just go with the size you have now if you not lookin to drop a grand on new wheels.

As for the chip use the search function at the top of the page(everyone asks that question) and no I got mine chipped for $300

The second number for the profile or height of the tire. How is that measured? If the number goes higher such as 45 to 55 is the height of the tire increased or decreased for a more aggresive look. I'm a little confused on this. Thanks.

ok if you want to upsize you wheel you are going to want to take a look at this website www.miata.net and look at the tire size calcutator to see whick will not throw out your speedo if you want to go with 17's your tire size should be 225/45/17

also for the chip programming there are a few place around Toronto H2 sport does GIAC tunning and you have JRP for REVO myself I would get the GIAC

BTW welcome to the forums we do not have to many Canadians on this forum but we are getting better if you need any help with parts I work at Owasco Audi in Whitby and I would be glad to help you out
