Default tire sizes

anyone know what tire sizes can be mounted on stock sport rims? i'd like to put more rubber on the ground without buying new wheels. current setup is 205/55 R16s. The rims are 7J x 16. can i go wider without changing the overall diameter of the tire?

yeah now that i've tightened up the suspension, the tires are screamin'. do you know what tire size would fit w/o changing the overall diameter or the rims? like ... 235/xx.

ahhh this might help tire idiots like me ...

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete...e.jsp?techid=7

so ... 205/55 = section height of 112.75 mm

therefore to maintain the exact same overall diameter in a 235 i'd have to find a 235/47.98 which obviously doesn't exist. changing the overall diameter must have some effect, if nothing else, on the speedo. i realize this is a very small change and it's likely it doesn't matter. but, that also doesn't tell me that a 235/45 or 50 will fit on my rims. right? am i missing something here?

I'm not sure any 235s are gonna fit the wheels, and you'll prob. have issues fitting them on the B5 as well. Besides, they will make a B5 look like a bodybuilder who only does legs.

You ever see those Mustangs or Camaros with the wheels sticking several inches out from the wheel wells? Same sort of thing, IMHO (yes, I've seen a B5 w/235s and it looks TACKY! [:'(] ).

Well, just buy better tires if your current ones are screaming... I wouldnt go any more than like 215/55/16's... I'd prolly go 205 again though -- but buy a performance tire if you drive aggressively.

Do you need these tires to go through snow?

I went from 205/55R16 to 225/50R16 and it made a world of difference. It was so easy to make the Dunlop 205s squeal but the Fuzion 225s grip 10 times better. You won't regret it!!!
