Default too hot and too cold?

when its 50F outside my car heats up normally and almost over heats sitting in traffic, but when it 20F my car wont heat at all? can't have no heat over the winter!

thermostat? heat core? coolant/antifreeze flushing? wondering if anyone else has had this...

(yes i searched but came up with nothing)

Do you ever hear any gurgling sounds? Any codes? If not I would suggest a new thermostat. Most likely that's what it is. Coolant will be replaced when you do that, but it does not drain the heatercore so you could flush it afterwards if you wanted to. If the core was bad the passenger floorboard would be wet, and bad coolant will not stop heat from working.
