Torn CV boot, replace both?
So got under the car last night to check on a tiny oil leak from my oil pan screw. It was fine, just a drop. Looked to the right and o geez...looks like someone took a knife to my passenger cv boot. Grease(or oil? its black.) all over my back wheel area.
So first, this is gonna sound so stupid but I just wanna check, the "outter cv boot kit" (from ecs) is for like outter towards the wheels ...right? obviously? And I can just get this at the stealership right?
And should I change all 4 boots at the same time (2 per side)? Or maybe just the outter two?
As much as this car gives me problems, i actually enjoy it...gives me something to do i guess...
PS, car makes a KNOCK KNOCK sound when hitting full torque (3200 rpm ish) in 2nd gear, not sure if its related. I've done tons of reading on motor mounts, anyone got a diagram as to where they are so I can check em out?

The outers are the ones towards the wheels. Just do the outer that is bad. The inners rarely fail. The knocking noise could be a bad cv joint due to the bad boot. Usually they are most noticable during low speed tight turns. You may want to do some tight circles in a lot to check out if the noise is still there. Also look closer at the joint. If its really dirty the joint may be bad. When the grease first starts leaking it is a grayish color.
definitely time to check the cv boots before the snow hits and they sand and saltthe roads. sand on the roads in the winter will eat up a cv joint in no time. the boys in the south don't have to worry as much about that though unless they are near the beach.
might wanna add a new axle bolt, have fun pulling the cv joint over the one time c-clip. Your gonna need the one time clamp crimpers, they are only like $10 at autozone.

Even if it were torn in the winter and road salt and grime were to get in there it would NOT damage the cv joint, our cv joints are "bulletproof" and don't need to be changed un-less someone with 600+ horse power fu**ed it up. Trust me.
