Default Totally frustrated.. please advice

Hi,
I was about to buy and 03 audi a4 1.8t from a dealer that told me that they had done a total 140 pt check from an audi dealer on the car and it was clean. luckily i did take it for a pre-inspection and guess what...there was an oil leak from the camshaft adjuster gasket. Along with that there were a number of trouble codes that he could read. the mechanic told me not to worry about them!?? (boost pressure regulation control was not reaching lower limit, oxygen sensor was malfunctioning as well the oil and temp sensor was either open or short). the mechanic thinks that this problem were previously fixed and they didnt erase the code. could that be true? would you be willing to take that risk (i am pissed at him also for not giving me a better explaination)? i am paying 23000 for this car and i expect a good clean car. i can take the normal wear and tear problems of a used car but these make me worry. I have been looking at the bmw 325i, 330i also and have not been satisfied with the pre-inspection problems that they come with.
my question is that am i looking at used cars where i should be expecting these problems since these cars are prone for problems? or am i stupid in considering all this? i cant afford a new bmw or audi but i do want a sporty car. i guess this is not the right forum to be asking this question but what other sporty cars would you guys suggest that would give me the thrill of driving?

thanks, a totally frustrated car seeker.

i'd say not to buy it.if it has this to start, you may never feel comfortable with the car.it's not worth it ,walk away.you know they cleared the codes already.

Don't buy it... Keep looking. Find something that isn't so scraggled, and that you feel better about. Work on the price too, I got my '02 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro for $14,700 OTD.

the mechanic thinks that this problem were previously fixed and they didn't erase the code. could that be true (no) in order for them to know the problem is fixed they have to reset the computer, paying 23000 for an 03 when you can get new for 2k more I know what I would do as far as the 03 car give it a missssss

Yup! Pass on that car, and those people!
If you're already looking at BMW's and Audi's... umm, at the risk of getting flamed, take a look at the new Acura TL's and possibly the TSX. Likely more reliable and more economical than either of its german counterparts...

But yeah, don't let this one car turn you off of the a4! Obviously all of us picked audi, for a reason.

What city are you buying the car in? What is the maximum mileage and minimum year and what options are must-haves? Let me know and ill take a look around.
