Don't be too quick in overlooking the Subaru Impreza. 230 HP with 4 wheel drive independent suspension. And it's gotten strong reviews for years.

That's going a bit far... I am sure they are a blast to drive. I heard their interiors are fairly cheap, and the WRX's (non-STI) had transmission issues... but I wouldn't go so far as to call them a joke!

 

I figured "Subaru" would get a rise out of someone... fact is it sounds like they are looking for a good, fast, sporty car and for the price and reliability I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss.

Hell, I'd take a Subaru over my crappy A4. And I'm sure my colleague would be happy to swap his 3-series... nothing but problems.
