Default tranny fluid

i need your help, i am planning to do it this weeken. i have an 2000 a4 quattro auto and i am doing a tranny service on my car , the problem i have is that they only sent me 4 liters of tranny fluids. i was wondering if that is enough, if not what can i get at a local parts store that i can mix with. the fluid that i got is Pentosin ATF1. that for your help.

i did mine today. if your doing the filter it will take between 5 to 6 liters. it took me 5 1/2. dont mix it with other type atf. i believe that pentosin is the manufacturer of oem fluid so you could go to the dealership and pick up a couple liters for like 17 bucks a pop. ask them if its the same stuff.

I concur with pitobaby76. Be certain not to mix fluids.

You are smart to be changing that "lifetime" fluid; I just had it done on my 1996 A4 2.8Q.

This is about the only service procedure that I would have the dealer do. I think they will do it for about $100, from what I hear. Just is too messy for me to do in an appartment parking lot. I need to gitr done too. I have 73k miles, anyone think this is too early? I dont have any significant performance complaints but its hard to tell what condition the fluid is in for auto.. I think.

b4 i did mine i called up an audi and a vw dealer and they both said about 300 to 350 to drop the pan and change the filter. i was like screw that so i bought 7 liters (only used 5 1/2) and went at it. it is a messy job ill tell u that. what i recommend is that u get urself a good suction gun or pump with a good 1.5 to 2 ft hose. the hose that came with the pump i bought was too short so i had to go back to autozone and get about 2 feet of rubber tubing. also the check plug and the drain plug have orings on them so i would go to the dealer and pick them up just in case urs might be tore up. u wouldnt want to fill ur tranny up and then find out that all ur fluid leaked out cuz of a stupid oring. ull need a vag com to chk the temp 35 to 45 deg c, torx bit forgot the size for the pan and for the filter, a hex key also forgot the size sorry for the drain plug, a 17 mm hex key or hex socket for the check plug. i tried a socket 1st but it shattered into tiny pieces. also a tq wrench with the proper tqs. i didnt have them because im a moron that forgot to check so i just used some german tq (goodntite). just be prepared to get messy. its really not a bad job as long as u have everything u need. oh and again just like everyone else has stated, that so called lifetime fluid i took out was blacker than night like used eng oil. the new stuff is like lightly golden ****, the stuff that dreams r made of. cuz its winter and if ull be doing this outside i would probably got to a shop or a dealer if u have the cream. its too damn cold to be working on crap outside. at 73,000 miles is a good time to do it. i think the intervals are like 30,000.

Oh I dont even know when the last time it was done, if ever. Id love to see what color it is. Drives fine as far as i can tell. After reading more I think i want to do it myself. i guess the price i was talking about was for the fluid change only. Does anyone think ECS is the best price for the filter and fluid?

unless u wanna pay 17 bucks a liter at the stealer.filter u could probably get at autozone not sure though. its messy though maybe too messy for an apt parking lot. just make sure u have a large drain pan.

This is not something to do lightly in a parking lot. to get the correct fluid level, you need a vagcom to check the fluid temperature, the car has to be perfectly level. It is a messy job.

At 75K miles I drained the pan and put in 2 liters of fresh fluid. The fluid looked perfect honey color, just like brand new.
