Default Transmission

I just purchased an 02 3.0 FWD with the CVT. So far I love it, but already there is an issue in day four of ownership. When put in drive or reverse etc, the center indication of PRND blinks sometimes. Is blank sometimes, and when I move it over to triptronic, it's blank. The car drives fine but still this worries me. Any input would be good. Problem 2..... Bought an extended warranty through my credit union. I unknowlingly took the car to a dealer it had been too in the past apparently for this problem according the their computers(making this a pre-existing condition). Do all Audi dealers share the same database? My warranty probably won't cover if the dealer shows it happened in the past and the previous owner refused the reapair. They want to sell me a new computer for the transmission for 1500. It's a great car, but this is not a good start.

well, the problem is new to you. I'd just see if your warranty covers it. Afterall, you bought the warranty for the car and they sold it to you.

Dealers don't share databases that I know of.

1500 is way overpriced for a TCU.

Thanks for the quick reply. This dealer also wanted 1100 for a new cat converter to extinguish a check eng light that just appeared from nowhere about the same time. I'm a little discouraged but hopefully it gets better.

Any repairs made under warranty show up in a shared database. Since the customer declined repairs that indicates it was made outside warranty. The dealer shouldnt share the infor about the previous customer declining repairs for the same concern. Its really not in their best interest. There is also a tech bullitin for the symptoms you describe. It suggests replacing the tcm(trans control module).

The cat may still be covered by warranty depending on the milage of the vehicle. It should be covered for 8 years and 80k miles. You can find information about that in the warranty manuel.
