transmission and differential fluid questions
just bought audi and need to know what it would cost for a transmission fluid change and do i need to change differential fluids. if so are the front center and rear are all in different places. how much would the differential fluid change cost too. thanks
well not too sure for the automaunal but when you replace the tranny fluid it also replaces the front diff and the rear diff is a sperate thing which takes about 1.9 quarts of tranny fluid. audi was chaging me roughly $300 for both, i spent maybe $50 on the special tool and oil did it myself.
like i said i have a manual so for me it was just liek changing the oil here the link to changing the oil in a manual and the rear diff, the rear diff is the same but not to sure about changing the fluid in a auto but atleast you can see the special tool im talking about.

My shop charged 200 for changing all the fluids/ gear oil for my tip quattro and differentials.
Yes Audi is a sealed unit, and yes it is lifetime fluid. But for Audi dealers, a lifetime is the end of the warranty period. After that you are on your own. If your tranny goes at 120K miles it is your problem, not theirs.
Sure the fluid doesn't get contaminated from outside, and the synthetic is very resistant to breakdown. Still, it accumulates metal chips, filings and internal contaminants. Seems cheap insurance against premature failure to clean it out once in a while. I change mine every 60K miles. I'm now at 170K and when I hit 180K it will be time for changing the filter and washing out the metal filings in the pan.
