i would go with what chaos said.... the s4 tranny would be harder and i think the 2.8 will do fine

o wow... i wasnt even aware that you could swap out a 1.8 tranny for a 2.8... if my tranny goes out ill prob opt for a 2.8 tranny....

how practical is this though?

im curious too as to how annoying it is to swap the 1.8 out with a 2.8 tranny. It seems like it's just mainly the gears you need to deal with.

its very practical and lots of guys with 1.8T's have made the swap. the ONLY thing you have to even change is the tranny mounts. reason why guys do this is because the 2.8 tranny has taller gears, which means better mpg and slightly faster acceleration

I think you would lose a little acceleration with a 2.8 tranny due to the taller gears.
