Tricking the Computer
Alright so i was doing some thinking and you kow the average MPG on the cluster. i usually reset that every time i fill up so i know what im getting roughly. so it will tell me im getting 18MPG and i can only go 220 miles on the tank of gas. i reach the 220 and the light comes on. i fill up and go on a littleroad trip and now im getting 22MPG. i need to fill up so instead of resetting the cluster i leave it alone. i look at how many miles i can go and its telling me 335miles. whats up with that?
i know that but my needle sucks. i go by how many miles i have driven. some time my light will come on and i ahve only driven 180 miles and i know thats wrong. so i dont know whats going on. and dont worry i wont run out of gas im not that dumb.
i like to know how far I can get on a “lightâ€on every car i owned so far. i take canister of gas and drive till i stop or at least start feeling my car just about to die… it would be stupid to stop in a left line in traffic… just try to stay on the right side while u testing your car…
cstarky, try this, fill your tank full then reset your trip meter. now just drive as you normally do until your tank is empty or light comes on or however you do it. this time when you fill up take the miles you drove (example: 220mi.) then divide that by how many gallonsyou just put in, and this is the most accurate way to determine mileage.(so example: 220 divided by 12.2 gallons = 18.03mpg.) this doesnt work if your tank isnt full, you know how some people put $20 here and there, just make sure you fill it up and reset your trip meter every time.i usually get around 330mi to a tank and when i fill up it usually takes around 14.6 gallons. so if you do the math you would see that i average 22.6mpg. but i drive 90mi a day to work and back so i gethighway mileage. good luck. let us know what you get
