My father owns a 1996 Audi A4 2.8L automatic 2wd. He has offered to sell it to me for $1500. Only catch is that the transmission went out and id have to fix that. Ive been looking and i can get a transmission for under $2000. Im just wondering whether its worth the time and effort. My concerns are mainly on the insurance costs and the possibility of something failing.

id do it, its only 1500 with like a few more grand ull have a pretty solid car. u gotta think, how much is it to buy a mechanically sound 96 2.8. if the total cost is less than their blue book or the average selling price of a similar 96 2.8, you should do it, right?

Just ckeck kellybluebook.com to find out current value, as for other '96's on auto trader they are going for $2,000 to $16,500. The 2,000 car has 186k on it. The 16,500 was modded as hell.
