Default Trip tronic loose.

There used to be a kind of resistence when going from automatic to trip tronic. It just freely moves side to side, so I have to drive it constantly in trip tronic.

Is this an easy fix? What do I do??

It's called "Tiptronic".
You're saying the shift system successfully changes to tip or auto mode when you move the shifter to the left or right, but the shifter will slide left to right on its own freely?

What year is your car?

woops! Didn't mean to write trip first off. But my car is a 98'. Everything works fine, both auto and tip, but yes as you said moves freely left to right, so I just always drive using the tiptronic.

Sounds like a broken mechanism in the shifter is all. Kind of a pain to get at it in the 98, since you have to remove the center console and dash plate.

So it's not easy.. That means it's probably going to be expensive... Whatever, I can just deal with it I suppose. I don't seem to have a choice.

Did you fix it? I have the same problem with my 99. How hard is it to fix?
