Default trip-tronic won't shift

When I leave the trans in drive, it works just fine, but if I try to manualy shift it, it won't shift until it revs out. Has any one else had this problem? The car is a '04 A4 3.0 quattro.

Sometimes mine won't shift up at the stick, but still does at the buttons on the wheel. My problem seems to be a sensor or switch.

I did try a search, but did not come up with that same tread, guess I didn't use the right words.
Thanks AutoUnionFan

So I took apart the shifter, it looks a little different, but came apart the same way. I was expecting to find the magnets gone, but they are still there. I'm wondering if it could be something in the computer? Would this cause any codes to come up?
