Turbo Boost
I wouldnt mess with that you could have serious problems chiping is the only safe way to raise the boost also alot of the performance of the chip comes from avanced timing and more agressive fuel and spark maps
I would thing that if you change the factory setting of the wastegate rod to make it close more then when it suposed to be open it will be partialy closed spooling the turbo when its not suposed to be....not to mention youll probly get an overboost cel

I have a 2004 A4 1.8T. If I go the route of closing the wastegate, which I have thought about doing on my own, would the turbo have that blowoff "pssst"? Right now, the car is completely stock, cause it's a lease (APR was cheaper on a lease), and when I drive the turbo whines but never blows off.... know what I'm sayin?
slimchriz, i know exactly what you mean about chipping, but i want more power, and i ask the dealer and he said hed viod my warrenty, and i dont want to do that, he told me he could safely raise the boost and it would be ok, so i dont know what to do, everyone has mixed emotions.
Try a manual boost controller there are a few out there but I was going to try this one dawesdevices.com Makes more sense to me with the straighter design. I believe his prices were also cheaper.
I know he was running this on a Jetta 1.8t without any problems. I may be wrong but I think he set his boost to 10 psi and doesnt recommend going any higher with out a chip due to lack of fuel. He says it can help hold the boost at that level also where as usually it will spike and drop. Yes they can be very dangerous if you raise your boost too high without the fuel to accomadate it. You must have a boost gauge before doing this so you know where you are at.
Hope this helps.

if you buy an Apexi S-afc you can succesfully turn up the boost to its max (15 psi i belive) but this is expensive and hard to tune unless you know exactly what your doing. if you have any doubts just chip your car its safer and less expensive
