Default Turbo Boost Leak?

I have a 2002 Audi A4 1.8.

Since I got the car a year and a half ago, I've noticed if I'm accelerating heavy in the lower RPM (1500-3000), I can really feel the Turbo doin' it's thang -- a great feeling indeed. But, I've also noticed I hear a "PFFFT" ever so often and when that happens I loose a great deal of power for a few seconds. In fact, it sometimes gets so bad that it happens a couple times a second and my car pretty much bounces forward then kind of jerks when that happens from the loss of power. It's as if the turbo is loosing pressure, but I don't have a guage so I'm only guessing.

It doesn't happen that often in the winter, but is almost consistant in the summer months. I've learned to live with it, and haven't really ever been bothered by it honestly, I'm a pretty calm driver, but I would like to fix that.

Any idea what it could be, or how I can troubleshoot it?

If you notice my other post about sputtering, this is definitly different. I know it's in the turbo, whereas my other post is an actual engine issue I'm having that only started a couple weeks ago. The turbo issue has been around since I've had the car.

Thanks!

-Chris
