Default turbo question

I was going to buy a turbo off of my friend, a T3/t4. But from what I have been reading in the forums in order to fully appreciate this turbo you have to change many things, including internals, and that goes way past my skill level. So my question is what turbo is one step up from the KO4 turbo? GT28r? and also I know the KO4 is direct bolt on with minor other changes to the car, is the next step up turbo the same?

thanks

even with a K04 there are still some mods you need to do if you don't want to have problems in the near future. Injectors, FMIC, DV, flashed ECU, and exhaust if you want to get more out of the turbo. If you are still weary about any of these things I suggest doing a bunch more reading/searching and get your friend to help you. hopefully he knows something, although he probably doesn't know anything either and thats why he sold the turbo lol

L.E.O. if you read my post i do know as I have stated that you do need to change a few things with the KO4. My friend does know a few things about turbos, he actually turbo charged his Jetta himself. I was just wondering what the next step up turbo is, and if it is worth buying that turbo, if it only takes the same things to change as in the KO4?

Why not go a little bigger with the turbo if it only takes the same changes as the KO? is this true?

What are your power goals?

Most Audi guys don't want/need the kind of power a t3/t4 (50 trim) will bring. No sense in having more turbo lag than you have to have. What I mean is a K04 will spool faster and get you to 250ish HP BUT if you want more HP then the t3/t4 is the turbo for you.

I probably will if the next turbo up has to many changes. I was just thinking that if I could go one step up from the KO4 with about the same changes that I have to do to the KO4 than i was figuring that I should just go the next step.

I just wanted to know the next turbo up from the KO4?
Also how much more work is it? Vs upgrading the KO4 which is pretty much bolt on
Do you know?

thanks

The next step up is a gt28rs. Its a pretty expensive setup, but you will see large gains over a chipped K03 as opposed to a K03 vs K04. Basically, there is more bang for your buck.

There are other turbos that will bolt on but none of them are made by audi. The BT's will all require tuning, injectors, fpr, fmic, exhaust.....and the list goes on. However a K04 can/will require some of these mods as well.

Bottom line is the next step up from a K04 is a BT
