Default Turbo Replacement/Turbo wanted

Took my car to the mechanic's today; I guess a blade in my turbo is cracked/chipped. He told me I have several months left before it completely dies, but the car is not driving so well now. He quoted $1500 for parts and labor to replace the turbo. How difficult is it to change the turbo on a 99.5? I have very little experience with this sort of thing, but I'd like to learn (and save money). Also, on that note, does anybody have a turbo they'd like to sell?
Thanks all.

It shoulnt be very hard to change it out, provide you have the proper tools. You may even want to upgrade to a k04 turbo for some more horsies! PM Doose for info.

Audiboy, how many miles are on the turbo, and more importantly, since you've installed three of them, would I be able to install this (I've never changed any parts on a car before)? Do you have a write-up on how to do it by any chance?
Thanks

Yes i can get ya a write up thats step by step, i did it with no write up the first time and learned as i went. The turbo has a 100k on it, i have taken great care of it tho, there is barely any shaft play, which is good for a used turbo.

Audiboy, can you pleaser give me a brief summary of what's involved in swapping the turbo? (disconnecting hoses, unbolting, removing other engine parts, etc) That would be very helpful.
Thanks
