I have a 2006A4 2.0T that I bought new 2 yrs ago. I have 48,000 miles on it. I have the oil & filter changed every 5000 miles despite what the service manual says.

When the temp outside goes below 35 degrees the turbo seems very loud especially at a cold start. It gets louder as the outside temp drops. I also notice more vibration in the interior when stopped in gear. It sounds as if I have a deisel powered car. Performance and fuel mileage do not seem to be affected.I left the car at the dealer for a week and they could not duplicate the problem.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

what do you mean the turbo is loud? as in you can hear it sucking in air through the intake quite noticeably, or is it making a dentist drill kind of sound?

 

I sounds like someone in a steel barrel hitting it inside with a rubber mallet.

well the cam chain tensioner makes a diesel engine noise on the 1.8t when it goes bad, i don't know if tis' the same with the 2.0t engine

 

It sounds like someone hitting a steel barrel with a rubber mallet and the dealer couldn't hear it? That doesn't sound like a noise the turbo would make.

The turbo and intake noise on my 2.0T is naturally loud. You can hear it even with the windows closed. Its louder with the windows down and I love it! The car does on occasion vibrate on the inside when its colder out. Dont know about a steel drum and rubber mallet! I am shocked that the dealer could not hear that.
