Default turn signal problem

guys i just had my ignition switched replaced on my 97 1.8t and now my turn signal wont retract back when i put it up or down, i have to put it back in its original postion manually. a friend of mine did it for nothing and i dont want to be an *** and make him take it apart again. anyway i took it apart and all the components look in tack, but i think there suppossed to be some kind of o-ring or something around a the shaft that snaps it back into postion and mine isnt there. does anyone know exactly what snaps the signal back into postion, am i right????

sorry if this is a little wordy and confusing!

Make sure the clock spring is seated all the way onto the switch stalks.

since the steering wheel was obviously removed the clock spring might not have been replaced correctly this resets the indicators ( caution here because the clock spring is connected to the air bags VIA the yellow connector so if you disconnect it with the battery ground on it will set the air bag light on, to avoid this disconnect the battery ground cable
