If I recall correctly for the A4... The ecu is located under the hood, next to the firewall, under the plastic grille, driver's side.

No, you need the correct "box" to use in your car. Each year, model, and transmission has a specific box programmed to work on that car specifically. You would need a box that goes to a 2004 1.8t (with manual tranny - yours is manual right?). I don't know the letter configuration for your box, but they all have letter configurations. My 2000 S4, with manual tranny, uses an "A" box.

Don't worry about the screws. It's just dealer hyperbole designed to make you paranoid.

Nope. It isn't a mechanical governor, it's programmed into the ECU.
