it's your service indicator light..it's programmed to automatically turn on at preset intervals...it pretty much means nothing if your car is no longer under warranty..what year is your car? on 98+ MYs you can reset it yourself

How do you reset the damn thing? My 98 says 1in1 on the mileage tracker for about a minute or so then shuts off, didn't think much of it.

 

I can't find it but there was a thread that had all kinds of instructions on things you could do.

Try this: On you inst cluster you have two sticks sticking out. Key off, push the right one in, hold it and turn the key on, but leave the engine off. (here's the tricky part, works on older A6's) Now, PULL the left stick. Press the right stick again, the odometer should then say "INSP" and pull the left stick again.
