Default gas milage

i think i posted something like this before, but i dont know whats goin on. My 2002 1.8tq is eating gas like my mom's suburban. is this normal? it says i get an average of 18mpg. i do drive "spiritedly" but that still seems way low for a four-banger. i tried some fuel system cleaner and reset the MPG guage and still no change. assuming that the MPG guage is not malfunctioning, what could the problem be?

The worst I've ever gotten from my 99' 1.8T Q Manual was 21mpg and that was a full tank of spirited driving. I normally get around 24 around town and 29 on the highway. I also have the APR chip. I would check it manually though to make sure your guage is correct because I wouldn't think an 02' would get that much less than a 99'

Do the math if you're not sure if the computer info is right. That is defintely low for a 1.8t if you do a good amount of highway driving like you said. I have the 2.8 and get about 25 mpg average with mostly highway and some around town mileage. Then again I do accelerate like an old lady.

At 40K mi. the dealer should change your spark plugs and air cleaner.
