Unreal day.
I drove my Integra to work today no problems. I start on the 1 hour trip home and tranny goes out. All the sudden. Just won't go into gear. So I pull over and get it into 1st, then 2nd, then 3rd, but it won't go into 4th or 5th. So I pull over on the busy *** highway again. Get it into 1st, then 2nd, then 3rd, and no 4th or 5th gear. WTF. So I only have 3 gears and it barely wants to go into them as is. I make it home after drivng 60mph at 5200rpm for 1 hour. Almost don't make it home after getting off the highway cuz I caught a light. Couldn't leave it in gear because the clutch woudn't disengage and wanted to stall. I get it home and have to take the audi to class.
Audi is almost done now from the front end damage it had when I got it. Just no ac condensor or hood grill. So I drive it to class and hear a funny noise. Thought it was coming from engine, but didn't know at the time. I got to school and shut it down.
I get out of class and go to start audi and it starts then stalls. Now I'm pissed. I turn the key again and it starts. So I took off for home quick like. I had a 1/4 tank and the time. I get home and get the wife to go to get gas and make a makeshift front grill out of gutter mesh for eavestroughs.
When the car was running in Home Depot parking lot, I heard the noise and got out to check. Not coming from engine, but rear of car. I get to the passenger side and hear something like a pump or something going bad, I look under car and I think I saw where it was coming from. In front of the passenger rear wheel next to the fuel tank.
1. What is it?
2. How bad is it and when does it need to be replaced?
I was hoping that this was the fuel pump that my car might fall under for the recall. Any other ideas?

Sounds like the fuel pump is close to hanging itself. They whirr really loudly, one day its just not going to start, I had 2 die in the Disco already.
It could also be your fuel filter, in my LR it was filled with gunk, caused poor starts, but never stalled.

Luckily the fuel pump is under the recall issued by Audi. So it's free. Whew. Few hundred saved.
I just really hope that that's the problem and it doesnt' decided to just die on me in the next few days. I need to drive it at least until Thursday.

Agreed on the fuel pump. If you search you'll find people describe that noise and the diagnosis a fuel pump. I reall them not being terribly expensive though and I think it was a DIY job?
