Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

the ones' on ebay won't give you the full functionality that the authentic one's do. you'll be able to do the basic stuff like the FOB key mod's and stuff like that but i don't think you'll be able to clear all your fault codes.

You will be able to read almost every code and you will be able to clear any code you find with the generic cable and the shareware VAG-COM software. The shareware software will only decode (tell you what the code means for (2) codes); but, if you have more than (2) codes stored, it will only decode (2) codes and show you the remaining codes that it finds (meaning only the code numbers not what they mean). However if you want to have any real functionality, you will have to buy a registered copy of the VAG-COM software.

Some of the VAG-COM modules are a tough to access abnd require the Ross-Tech cable but, I'm not experienced enough with to know which ones.

Yea the usb cables that i had in the past had the serial numbers and such encrypted into the cable so it would work fully registered no matter what computer you used it on.

Got the USB cable,
http://stores.ebay.com/alpha-bid/USB-Vag-Com-Cable.html
........ simulates a COM port though.

So far works fine with shareware VAG.

that is the exact same one I ordered company and all, although taking forever for it to get to me. Definatly will not be doing business with them again, talk about jacked up shipping prices too.
