VAG-COM 18113 (P1705) Fault?
I purchased VAG-COM from Ross-Tech yesterday and got my license today. I did a full scan of my car and I got this from Address 02 (Auto Trans):
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 02: Auto Trans
Controller: 01J 927 156 CQ
Component: V30 01J 1.8l5VT USA 2032
Coding: 01001
Shop #: WSC 63351
1 Fault Found:
18113 - Gear Ratio Monitoring: Adaptation Limit Reached
P1705 - 09-10 - Adaptation Limit Surpassed - Intermittent
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyone know what that means or where I can start? It's time to change my tranny fluid, which I'm going to be doing middle of next week.
I also got these two codes, but I think it's because I was sitting inside the car, thus the motion detector was picking me up:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 45: Inter. Monitor
Controller: 8E0 951 177
Component: Innenraumueberw. 0504
Coding: 00001
Shop #: WSC 00000
1 Fault Found:
64764 - Unknown Error Code
Unknown - 124-10 - Unknown Error Elaboration - Intermittent
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 46: Central Conv.
Controller: 8E0 959 433 T
Component: Komfortgerát T5B 0617
Coding: 11788
Shop #: WSC 63351
1 Fault Found:
01370 - Alarm triggered by Interior Monitoring
35-00 - -
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not worried about the last two, but I am about the first one. Any input?
-Chris

I forgot I could look the code up in my Bently manual. Here's what I found:
Output at printer: 18113 / P1705 (Monitoring gear ratio: Adaptation limit reached)
Possible cause: Adaptation values stored too limited
Corrective action: Delete DTC memory, perform adaptation. Note: To do this, with selector lever in position P at 60 to 80° C ATF temperature ( => read Measured Value Block, page AUDI-B6-AT03-01-012-0101-90; display group number 010) allow engine to run for 1 minute at idle. If transmission is operating correctly, delete DTC memory and ignore renewed DTC entry.
Possible Cause: Hydraulic malfunction
Corrective Action: Replace hydraulic unit. (Repair Manual, Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) 01J, Repair Group 38)

Do you have a CVT transmission? If you do follow exactly what your bently manual tells you to, if it checks out erase the fault and see if it comes back. The dealer has about 4 TSB's for the CVT trans and several different repairs.
Yeah, CVT. It's been acting really weird. It's like it is slipping. I have to run it above 2k RPM at all times or it shudders very hard -- feels exactly like a clutch slipping, or the chain in the tranny slipping. It's time to change fluid, which I'm going to do in the next few days. I'm hoping it's just old fluid that is shot, or low on fluid.
Anyway, when I change the fluid I'll clear this out and see how things go. Thanks!

The fluid has to be changed every 40k, you can't change it yourself without several special tools.
Plus its a fat chance changing the fluid will stop a shudder, shudders usually have to do with faulty clutch engagements, and or input shaft problems which there is a TSB for.

Yeah, I'm at 80k which is why I'm changing it.
As for the special tools, I understand that some of the CVT fluid containers come with the tube on the end that is used in the filler plug. And if not that, there are several options for tools that will get the job done. Further, I have VAG-COM so I'm able to read the temp and ensure that it's in the correct range when filling.
I'm going to be at the dealer tomorrow picking up the fluid, so I'll see if they can give me TSB's that I don't already have.
Am I missing anything?
EDIT: I'm downloading updates to my service manual now that apparently include some TSB's related to CVT's. Thanks for pointing that out...
