Default Vag not working

I just got my friends old ebay vag cable, and I downloaded the ross tech program for it. But when I try to test it it comes up saying port status: ok Interface: not found.
Any ideas?

comms port setting is probably incorrect on your computer so it cant find the cable try setting the cons on the vag software to com 3

I tried all of the ports but non of them work. How do I use the file once I've downloaded it? Also I have an aftermarket radio, could that be the problem?

radio could be the problem Ive heard garages wont run diagnostics on these cars if the original radio isn't in there because it blows there diagnostic gear up due to the way the radio is wired up

just install the file I think. I use com port 4 with my lap-top, yours might be different. Don't know if your radio is causing the problem? does your friend still have his audi - maybe you could test it on his car.

not sure if your car has CAN bus but newer ones do and the VAG or diagnostic needs to see the original radio for security reasons they are linked via the DLC

Had same prob...Go into device manager in control panel and find an unused com port even if your cable is USB. I use Com 3 (have USB myself). Worked fine after I assigned it.

Follow these directions
http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/usb/usb-config.html
except when you go to step 6
go to the folder I had you DL earlier should be on your Desktop if you unziped it there. called winxp

select that file - then continue with the directions from ross-tech

good luck
