Thanks I will try that. I have not done that yet because I assumedthe dealer would have looked at that as a problem. Are there any more suggestions out there?

One more thing. It vibrates and shakes a lot more when the engine is not a operating temperature; especially when I put the car in Drive or Reverse.

Ok, first of all, dont give in. If you just bought this car from the dealer, then its still under warranty, make them fix it! Threaten to return the car if they dont get it fixed.

Cel = check engine light

2nd, if there are no codes, what is the rpm it idles at? it should be right around 900rpm.

It sounds like they looked at all the possible causes, but there really should not be any shaking. Most Ive been in idle smooth as butter, including my own.

Thanks. No, no engine lights or codes at all. I am taking it in tomorrow morning to a different shop. I am wondering if the Catalytic Converter is bad. I read on another forum that that could be the cause. Keep suggestions coming. Or if anyone gets word send the possibility my way. This vibration has cost me a lot of money already. Love the car hate the vibration.

Hello,
I got the exact same problem; 03 A4 1.8t quat. I've even posted something like this couple months ago when I got the car. I've done some/minimal "research" on-line and found that this flaw is common for early model B6s. It's really annoying but I got used to it. I know what you mean when you say it's worse when you pop it into D or R. N or P seems ok. After awhile of running the car, the vibration isn't as bad as the first few run in the morning. Til now I still don't have any solution for it. Let's keep each other posted. Besides all that, it's still an awesome performance vehicle....

This is weird. That is the second time I've heard that. Do all 1.8T Quattros autos have a shaking problem? Acetrebo what kind of car do you have? Maybe we are comparing applesand oranges.

Mines a smooth as silk B5.

So, not the same. Probably see if other early B6'ers are having the same issue.

B5 FTW!

so is it only automatics? my '03 (5spd) doesn't vibrate at all. although when i picked it up from the dealer the CEL was on and idle was fairly rough. I wouldnt call it "shake" though. I took it back and it was a vacum hose that "fell off". it cleared the code (whtever it was).,

mine does this... I have a 01, 1.8 manual.

Sometimes when i just start it up in the morning it almost chugs... and idels super hard when i reverse out of the garage, and then sometimes even stalls out when i go to put it in first... but most of the time i just need to give it some more gas. I had thought that maybe i needed to readjust my dv because to much air was being put back in so i was running super rich or something, and extra fuel was being 'stored' so when i start it all the fuel that was 'stored' is making me shake/stall....

not sure about the !.8t but on my 2.8 cleaning out the ICV idle control valve really helped with the vibrations, theres still some vibrations in my car but im assuming thats due to the track denstiy tranny mounts in my car.
