viscous fan problem
I just replaced my engine and I think I cross threded the bolt for the viscous fan ( I think thats what its called) and have a quick question. The bolt comes in from the back of the engine block and screws into the fan but im not sure if its threded on the block and the fan or just on the fan. If its threded on the fan only its no big deal since I can just replace the fan but if its threded on the block its prolly going to be a big pain in the a$$ to fix. Does anyone remeber when they did their timing belt maybe if bolth were threded? The center parts of the fan im talking about looks similar to the pic below-its the big fan in front of the radiator.
Thanks

RE: viscous fan problem
Im not sure what you are referring to. The fan, IIRC, is reverse thread. It threads into the pulley that is connected to the engine block. I think it would have been fairly hard to cross thread and strip that large of a bolt. Im not sure what you mean by "both were threaded". For a bolt to connect to something the bolt has to be threaded along with the something it bolts into.

RE: viscous fan problem
I got it fixed. It was actually my buddy that cross threded it somehow, I just needed toknow if the part of the block that the bolt slide in was threded and also the fan housing. Turns out its just the fan housing and the bolt just slides through the block. Luckily I had and extra fan so it didnt cost me anyhting.
Thanks guys

RE: viscous fan problem
easly done because its a very fine thread but best of all the female end is drop forged so the male viscus fan thread would go first ( its a left hand thread in case you didnt know ) its caught many out
