Default VW vs A4

I really am looking in on purchasing an A4 but the only problem is (obviously) they are more expensive then a GTi or a Jetta 1.8t. What are the differences between the two engines. Just the engines, I know all the other differences. Can I do the exact same upgrades to a VW that I can to an A4? for example if I went onto Evolution motorsports website and ordered a stage 3 upgrade package would it be compatible with the Gti?

some parts would be compatable but most wouldn't. A gti can be made faster for alot less change.

Yea you can drop a k04 into a gti, i think its the k04-01, opposed to the normal k04-15 for the b5 A4, im not sure though. AWE sells the K04 kit and it will put out around 240ish hp for the gti. Some guy at awe has it and has it into the mid 13s with minimal work done to it. Advantages of a GTI, they are more popular and have more tuners and more performance parts to choose from while keeping the cost low, they are lighter and faster upto a certain point. Disadvantages, non quattro, doesn't look as nice IMO, to many people have them, and they are small. I have an A4 and was in the same situation as you, i was looking at the GTI. A good VW forum to goto is vwvortex ****, they even have audi forums over there.

The difference is you are going to get crazy wheel spin with those kind of #'s in a front wheel drive car

Well I own the Audi. I worked for BMW, Mercedes. Originally my choice was between the A4 and a C230 Kompressor. They are very similar in fit an finish...meaning that the car is just assemble better and with better parts regarding interior and such.
Enter the VW. I thought that they would be the same car but when I finally drove a similar Jetta the first thing I noticed was the way the Jetta was assmebled. I mean every thing inside the car is just not the same quality as the Audi. Yes the engine are the same but there the similarity endes. The Audi is mated with Quattro ( a must) and it is better for it.
Hope this helps.

Yeah...Volvo's are a joke now that Ford has put their hands all over them. There are hints of AutomaDomestica all over the new Volvo's and Saab's. Especially with the new Saab...it is sucg a GM!
Great body style...good power. But then there are these chincy buttons that have a kind of Wal Mart feel. And then there is the body trim...totally GM. The next time you see a beautiful red or white Saab 9-3 driving down the blvd notice the huge GMC truck plastic door handles (which by the way start oxidizing after two years) and the black plastic molding going aroud the car.
Don't get me wrong, you get a lot of car for your money with a VW but just the same you get more for more with an Audi!
