I'm not sure where this would really go but I figured this would be a good place to start, move it if you have to.

SO I am thinking more and more about selling my 12v and I want your guys input on what you think I should do. (I know I know sell it and get a 1.8t which is what I want to do but I don't know how to price it) so here is the info

1996 Audi A4 2.8l, quattro, 5 speed. Europa Mica blue, with Ecru leather interior.

~197,000 miles on the engine, oil changed regularly.

The car still runs well and has no super major problems, very detailed history up till I received the car a year ago and then I've just kept track of maintenance

So the bad about the car:
- leaking power steering rack (would be fixed before sale)
- small dent in rear bumper on the corner that you have difficulty noticing when you look at the car.
- EGR valve clogged (throws a CEL, but is not detrimental to the car at all)
- Cat ( i think right side is gone) are gone (also throws CEL but also not bad for car. I don't mind sound and was probably gonna run a pipe through the cats anyway)
- thermostat is going I think (will be replaced)
- TB needs to be done (done before sale and thermostat being replaced then)
- almost 200K of road wear
- headliner is drooping in the back
- probably due for tires soon

the good
- paint is really good for the miles
- engine is strong and always starts
- interior is in pretty good shape
- stick shift
- 12 disc CD changer w/ remote
- Bose System
- winter package
- tinted windows (I don't know the %but there pretty dark)
- EBC greenstuff pads under 5k on them with new front rotors

the idea: I want to sell it to this kind of person: someone looking for a first car for their son/daughter who wants a decently preforming, safe, and good looking vehicle that will weather the Cincinnati winters and get their child around safely. Also the child would idealy like to take care of cars but if they just want it for status whatever

So KBB says $5,380 for a good condition. what do you think this would be?

I was thinking putting it up for 6K and seeing what happens.

Thanks for your help guys, after this, if I decide I want to sell it I have to convince my parents since it's technically in their name, but we'll worry about it later.

Yeah try it out at 6K, I doubt that it would sell but you can always start high and then lower it down. You can never go the other way.

Nice car btw but I HATE that steering wheel! [:'(] LOL

Yeah, start high (6k) but with the miles you'll be doing good if you get 5k.

Its a 12v after all........but it is quattro manual.

Blue shorts and a green t-shirt = bad match.

Anyways yeah, I'd try to stick it up for 6K and not drop below ~ 5.2K. It's worth the effort to try to sell it at that price, because eventually someone will want it bad enough to pay for it. And it's worth the 5.2-6K easily.

I usually go by NADA as opposed to KBB, but thats just me....... if you want to wait a long time for the right person, you might get 5k for it, but if you wanna sell it quick, 3-4k is a decent price to sell at. You have to remember that you have a few mechanical/cosmetic issues that scare off people normally.I would get everything fixed before you try and sell it for 6k. Also, has the timing belt been done recently?

answer: no, I had my dad look at the records and the timing belt would have to be replaced before I would sell it. I just wouldn't feel right selling a car on borrowed time. When I replace the timing belt I'll have the thermostat and the power steering rack replaced which would take care of almost all the somewhat major mechanical issues. (but cost like 2g's total to do)

I think I might talk to my parents and see if they'll let me sell it. I'm in college so it's just sitting at home in Cincinnati so it wouldn't be in a huge time crunch to sell it(probably by summer would be ideal). If I could get 5something for it that would put me on the right track to pick up a newer 1.8t and then the fun can begin.

bump, I would like some more thoughts, AKA help with convincing my parents to fix the TB, Thermostat, Power steering rack, and then turn around and sell it.

i would tell them you need a more reliable car since yours has 200k miles basically.
