warm up
hey guys have a 1997 a4 1.8t qut/autotran, my heater takes a while to actually blow out hot air in the cold mornings, is this normal for car with 170k or is there some kind of maintenance i can perform to improve this?
Take it easy on him, this isn't a stupid question. Drive a little Honda Civic and then compare it to say a 6.0L Dodge Diesel. That civic is going to heat up hella quick compared to the monster Dodge. Cars warm up at different rates.
Your engine needs to heat up before you feel any heat out of the vents. A broken thermostat could make it slower.
When you turn your heater on, coolant gets diverted to the heater core and then fans blow through that and into the car. Its possible that you have a clog in the passageway to your heater core or that the coolant is only trickling in to the core. This would slow it down considerably. Not changing the coolant enough and getting junk (rust etc) in there could clog up the heater core and severely limit the amount of flow.
Give a time estimate tomorrow and the temperature in the morning. A few minutes is totally normal. If it takes 15 minutes to feel any heat, you have a problem.
