Water pouring into cabin through grommet!
Hello all,
I just recently installed an amplifier for my subwoofer for my 1999.5 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro. I saw a website that said to use the grommet that the hood latch goes through and to cut a hole and feed the power wire through there.
It worked great, until I discovered about 1/2 an inch of water in my driver's side rear passenger floorpan. I went through all the troubleshooting steps to find the leak (sunroof clogged, battery drain, etc.) and found out that water is POURING in through the hole I cut in the grommet.
Should I just buy some silicone sealant and seal up the cut I made around the power wire? Or is there something better I can do?
Thanks for any help,
Brian

seal up that hole ASAP and see if you can run the power wire through the grommet in your bonnet where the battery power runs through, it should already be a hole that is covered with a rubber seal, this is on the top left of the bonnet in B5 models. This can be quite tricky but if you are patient enough you can run the power wire for your amp around the power wires and it will drop througha hole right up the back behond your glove box. This took me F****** ages but well worth it you have a nearly perfect seal and then you can hide all of the wires going to the install. and no one has a lue till you switch her on
what you should have done and what you still do is get some clear silicon calk and just apply it around the wire and plug up the whole you already have this way you dont have to re run the wire.. had the same problem in my old passat
