b5's arent that heavy, especially without all the extras, arent they only like 2950lbs as base model, w/o quattro, w/ manual, no sunroof, ect

Yea but the majority of us have all the extras. The V6s are even worse. I'm not really complaining about the weight. Its the lack of power that makes the weight more apparent. Audi should of made the A4 with more power to begin with, they were just being cheap by using VW's motors.

Yea imagine if the NA b5 or b6 had a nissan VQ motor. Or the turbo version had a subaru or mitsubishi evo motor. Sorry about the thread jack.

The interior is so damn nice, I wouldn't think of gutting it unless some serious track time was involved. Most of the extra fat is from the Quattro system. I think the best way to improve the power to weight ratio would be to increase the power instead of decreasing the weight. No matter what you do its still gonna be a porker.
Just out of curiosity. Whats the weight difference between the stock and a carbon fiber hood? How would you move the battery to the rear like in the RS4? I'm guessing its not difficult. How do you calculate power to weight ratio?
To calculate power to weight ratio, you just take your horsepower at the wheels (crank works, but wheels is more accurate) and divide it by the weight

so say you have a 100 horsepower car that weighs 2000 pounds, your power to weight would be 1 horse power to every 20 lbs, or 1HP:20LBS

You front driver and pasanger seat weigh roughly 75lbs a piece. to put the battery in the trunk get a relocation kit or make one it's not that hard to do. If you really wanna do a weight redux your going to need to cut. the car is well made and safe meaning excess metal that can be done away with. carbon fiber hood and trunk, fibergalss bodykit, no bigger than 16" rims, racing seats, no back seat, and a few other things and you could easily drop 700lbs of the car

i would never get rims bigger than 16's. im old school. i keep it that way.
even on a new car. 16's with a negative offset.

and speaking of the swap. i think it could be done for about 3500.
the enigne is already set up rear wheel just make sure the bellhousing
fits. and the engine block isnt hitting the firewall and even then
you can always use a hammer or routing saw. just use the stock
motor mounts from each engine and make them fit together. ecu harness
and youre all set. of course theres more you'll run into but thats
the gist of it all.
