Weird noise coming from manual transmission
Hey Guys,
I have a 2001 quattro sport w/ manual tranny and I've noticed a weird sound when shifting out of first. When I push the clutch in (to start going into second) I can hear a sort of sliding noise (sort of like a "grinding" but that word is overkill for what I'm trying to describe). Its fairly faint but it just doesn't sound right. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

IS it a whirring noise??? Because thte dealer I bought my car from said that that may be a sign of your clutch going. Although mine does it even though my clutch is in good shape, or at least people have told me.
it could be just the synchro's doing thier job, sometimes those things can be noisy...
synchro's aka synchromeshes are the things that make sure that the gears are spinning the same speed when you move the driveshaft in and out of the gears going to the wheels
having a mechanic look at it will be kind of expensive, seeing as he has to pull the tranny and break it apart, i wouldent worry unless its redicilously unusual or somthing
