weird plug wires?
I wanted to change the plugs and wires on my '98 2.8q, so I just went out and bought some. I got Bosch Platinum +4's and a set of Accel 8.8mm wires. The plug change went fine, but when I tried to change the wires, I ran into a problem. Being the fool I am, I didn't take a wire off the engine for comparison when I went in to buy new ones.
Turns out that the coil on my engine uses weird terminals that have a metal piece going into a socket...not the usual "metal **** sticking out" type like you'd find on a traditional American engine, like these wires were designed for. I know that's kinda vague, so refer to this tech article to see pics of the wire end going into the coil. Now if I had the same two-piece wire ends that the author of that article had, I'd be fine. But mine are one-piece designs. They look like an ordinary 90-degree spark plug boot, but they have that metal contact inside them.
So, now I have a useless set of very expensive spark plug wires. I would like to hear from anyone who's changed the wires on this engine. Is there a way to separate the type of connector I have without destroying it? Is there any way to get those wires I bought onto the engine?
