Plug wires and what brand to buy????
I am looking for any advice on what kind of plugs and wires I should put in my 99 2.8L V6 30V A6 Quattro. It has approx 155K miles on it and I am looking for any and all suggestion of what kind of plugs, wires and what I should be doing at that kind of miles to maintain this ride (this car is a daily commuter for me 7 miles each way and the occasional weekend trip to Duluth,Mn)
I don't know alot about the older Audi's like your 2.8. However I know mine (2.7T) doesn't even have plug wires. It's a coil on plug configuration. I would suggest youo change your plugs, but if its coil on plug for your motor too, then there is no such thing as plug wires.
I have the same car ('99 A6 2.8)- I just changed my wire/plugs and PVC
Wires: STI (www.KarlynSTI.com) They come in two sets (Right & Left Banks)- Right Bank Part#233R200 (Cyl# 1,2, 3)- Each wire is labled maked replacement easy. Wires: $115 ea. set or $230 clams- note: the dealer wanted $46 per plug- I guess they sell them in eaches.
Plugs: NGK- Part#3584 (BKR6EKUB)- $32 total
PVC Line- Part# Q78-103-824R- $75 total
I purchased these parts from my local Foreign Car Parts store that specializes in Audis/VW. All parts are OEM quality and my car is running beautifully. When I was changing the wires on the left bank (drivers side) the PVC tube had to be lifted to get #6 wire out andthe tubecrumbled in my hand. After removal ofthe entire PVC hose, it was basically clogged (think block artery) throughout the lineline and valve cover opening. I changed my oil(Mobile1) & filter (WIX)every 7500K miles until I got to 100K, I now change it at 3K miles. FYI-I had an Audi mechanic replace this hose a few years ago and apparently he didn't. The reason for the plug & wire change was that I had a misfire in Cyl #3- Now the misfire is gone!
Lastly, don't skimp on replacement parts you'll pay for it later (sooner than you think)
Hope this helps
