Hi,

I'm getting this annoying "squeak squeak squeak" noise from my car. It stops after driving around a bit, maybe after the car warms up. The squeak seems to be worse when it is cold outside. I think it may be coming from the wheels or the engine area. Has anyone had this problem? Also it only squeaks while driving, not sitting still.

 

if it happens when you turn your wheel, it's prolly the control arms.

 

i have the same problem sometimes. its only when i make left turns. do the controll arms need to be replaced?

 

There is a recall on the control arm I called the dealer yesterday and they told me the only recall outstanding on my car (99 a4 1.8t 5 speed) was a control arm check if no one has messed with it it should be covered.

 

you have a 99 i have an 01. do you know if its a recall for the 01?

 

Well the recall was on mine and its a 00 so I don't see why it wouldn't be on your 01.

My control arm squeaks when I shift gears and go over potholes. Lookup the recall beside the search button at the top of the page.

 

Hmm it does not only squeak while turning, it squeaks non stop for at least 5 minutes. Maybe it is related to this recall about Tie Rods?

Yes, I am concerned about a squeek noise in my car too. A4 99 1.8. I was actually searching around on the internet about the noise and I found this forum and this particular problem. My noise is coming from the wheel somewhere. It could be brake related because when I apply the brakes it seems to fade away. Also, when I accelerate it will fade. It seems to be comning from coasting along at about 20 - 30 miles an hour.
