When I have my wheels turned, my car lets out this really loud noise that I can't explain. I know that I have a torn CV boot and that I need power-steering fluid. Could that have somthing to do with the noise? (This is on a 96 2.8Q)

Thanks!
Mike

RE: Weird Steering Noise
Where is you power steering fluid going. Fill it up with Pentosin 11 before you burn out the pump.

Do you hate your car? Torn CV boot- critically bad Low power steering fluid- critically bad

Have you looked at the price of replacing your self destroyed power steering pump? I think it is a little over 600 in parts and tack on atleast 200 for the labor on that one. Over a 10-15 dollar liter of power steering fluid?

I also had the mechanic check out the timing belt and it was supposedly replaced and still has some life on it but I will also be changing that very soon.

RE: Weird Steering Noise
Just checking.

Is the noise a squeeling noise or a grinding noise?

If it is squeeling, your pump is not holding the belt tight when it gets under tension. Look for broken brackets or a loose belt. Did the noise start before or after the mechanic. He could have induced it when checking the timing belt.

If it is a grinding noise the pump is probably already burnt up from not having enough fluid. It only takes a few seconds to burn um up if they are low enough on fluid.
