Went to a car show yesterday LOL!!!!!
So, me and four buddies went to "Import Faceoff" yesterday in Montgomery, Alabama. It wasn't a large show and many of the cars were crap but there were several very nice rides plus there were 1/4 mile drags all day. I had no intention of entering my car in the show but I wanted to park in the show so I didn't think I had a choice. I went ahead and paid the $25 (instead of the normal $15 just to look) and entered my car. I found out later I could've parked and just not been judged for $15 so i was a little pissed. We stayed until the end of the show because we assumed my buddy would get a trophy for his 650hp WRX. Well, he did and as we were about to leave (literally I was walking away), they called out "Best Euro" to Joel McKay with his 1999 Audi A4. I was laughing the whole way as I walked up to the stage to get my 2.5ft trophy. As I was leaving a guy walked up to me with a pissed off look on his face and asked what I had done to my ride because he thought his '92 3series should've won. I guess having the only modified Audi at the entire show counted for something LOL!
Actually, he just got it back Saturday. He has to put 2000 miles on the motor before it's dynoed or raced (I said 650 because they said at least 600). It's a WRX with a fully built STI motor. He's got a GT35 turbo, but I'm not sure how much boost he'll be running. They built the entire bottom end and took it out for a run (STIs have stout top ends stock). Within half a mile he broke a valve spring. They put it back in the shop and built the entire top end. He also has a racing tranny with straight cut gears. The coolest thing to me is that other than the racing clutch and flywheel and extremely loud exhaust it drives great. He took it round trip to Montgomery yesterday from Tuscaloosa (about 300 miles) and it ran perfectly. He didn't take the cheap way out on anything which unfortuantely caused an investment of about $80,000; however, he'll have a realiable 10.5 second car!
I think there are better way s to spend 80 grand, afterall its still a WRX, you could make a really fast B5 S4 for 80K! Maybe a used RS6 and do the 550HP conversion Not knocking the subarus, but 80K seems obsesive, i mean spending more on mods, than you did on the car? Kinda crazy IMO
Added: O yeah and i almost forgot, congrats on th unexpected win, the car looks great very clean and refined! Maybe they'll be more shows in your future?

I agree, it's a lot of money. However, it's not gonna break. I can't give you an exact number but I know his tranny was very expensive. He knows a guy running a GT40 that has 900hp. He wants to be there someday and this yranny will hold that and more. His internals are also good for this much. Also, I think he way have new diffs, axels, and driveshafts. None the less 80 grand is a lot but there aren't many people with streetable 10 second cars.
