ORIGINAL: zachd

The DEA thing is cool. Did you remove the seats to make sure there wherent any glocks in there or a kilo or anything?

the DEA auction was advertised in the paper. there was a $150 entry fee to even get in to look at the cars. so not very many people actually paid to get in.

yes they had ripped the car apart and put it back to gether again. (thats why this one door panel rattles when ludacris comes on.) after tax and title the car was 5200

a aftermarket intake will see gains, although not at first, you will notice a power difference the further you get into modifiing a car.

AB1618. after you get the DP and K04 drive for a while. then go out and get your self an aftermarket intake( either from me or hks or evom) and report to us the difference you feel and the slight increase in mpg.

i feel so speacil that you guys respect me as some kind of car god. i tell you this i am fairly new to the audi scene but have been around cars since 8 i rebuilt the first carborator at 10 and since then cars have been my life.

What i say to do is not always what is in your best interest nor you cars best interest. If you are completely dissatisfied with the performance of your audi chip it first. this will rekindle the fire you have for speed. often exhausts cost more than a chip and will offer no immediate power gains. again all the modifications complement each other. a chip first is fine. a chip coupled with an exhaust system will multiply the fun.

on another exhaust note. you dont really have to be worried about the sound coming out of the tailpipes. very rarely can you get an exhaust note conparable to a "CIVIC" this signature exhaust note is a result of an aftermarket muffler, designed to make the noise it does, welded to a factory exhaust system.

Remeber this for it is the rule of exhaust sound, the more horsepower the better the exhaust sounds. This is not a cliche. all exhaust sound different but a ricer civic with gobs of horsepower does have a kick *** exhaust note. Have you ever heard a ferrari? I mean a real ferrari, like a 550, or a 456GT. these are 2 front engined V12 ferraris. there exhaust note is very distinguishable. an exhaust note that cannot be replicated. The audi exhaust note is unique and the way to keep it sounding audi is to buy an exhaust system built specifiaclly by a company that deals with audi and its close relatives. like APR, Greddspeed, AWE, ATP and so on. while havuing your own exhaust fabricated can give you an exhaust note unique to all others it very hard to pick the tone that you like. thousands of man hours have been put into these exhaust systems built by these companies listed above.

Well guys I am 17 years old and am a Senior in highschool. My Toyota MR-2 was my first car since I was so into rice burners. I mean I still have love for it and stuff but I just saw the A4 and fell in love. It had everything I wanted 4 doors * since I'm sick of the 2 seater*, sport, sexy, elegente, and the chicks dig them. I mean I love my MR-2, but it is non-turbo and really hard to swap the 3SGTE motor into it. Waste of money to me. I could just put a down payment down on a newer, more reliable car. So yea. But I don't expect to get the Audi til Feb. I am only getting 3 grand for my MR-2 and trying to sell my rims for like 1200. So I hope to have 4 Grand to drop down on a down payment then have a little money left over for a chip or exhaust. But what brand chip would you guys recommend? I've been reading that APR is pretty nice. Or what exhaust should I get? Thanks everyone!

yeah the APR Stage I is a nice chip. Right now i think its on sale for 450 on www.goapr.com . Any way you decide to go stick with Audi specific brands: APR, Greddspeed, GIAC and TAP are the nice ones.

As for exhaust both APR and Oettinger make very nice exhausts. They pretty much focus on a better overall airflow with out as much restriction - compared to the stock exhaust - meaning less backpressure. If your gonna chip, an exhaust is definitely reccomended because the added backpressure from the stock exhaust(combined with the chip) can cause your Turbo to overheat and it will not last as long. This tends to be pretty controversial because chips provide an excellent performance boost and some say its not a big enough difference to have to throw down 1,000 bucks for an exhaust. Good luck man and i hope this helps.

Good luck!

if you like the ricer scene (nothin wrong with that, to each his own.) then chip it. a lot of people thnk the a4 is faster than it really is so chip it to gain more respect.

the exhaust talk brings up another point not yet mentioned, piping size, depending on the application and the driver the piping sizes change. if your like me where pretty much all that matters on your car is getting the max horsepower you can than by all means, make a custom downpipe that exits right infront of the front wheel, no muffler. i did that on my civic(1.8t(not VW/Audi duh)) and i bet only a few of you have heard a sound like that. that exhaust will give you the quickest spool and the best top end, but its obviouslyt pretty loud. the smaller the piping size(within reason) the more torque the ENGINE will make, before the turbo spools, this really only aids in stop and go not racing at all. if you want daily drivabilty go for a full system with a good resonator(not pre muffler, resonator) and almost any muffler you want. the muffler doesn't really change the sound, if you have a system with a good resonator no matter what muffler it will sound pretty much the same, just louder or quiter. after all these cars are turbo, which alone acts like a pre muffler. and if you have a cat, then you have another pre muffler. so don't worry about getting a rice buzz, it won't happen if you do it right.

hope i helped

ps im new the the audi scene, just got a nice 2001 a4 avant Q and am looking for some mods, any good website reccomendations? tnx
