What is causing this? (Flashing CE light)
Mil is the same thing as CE its manfuntion indicatorlamp. When the engine misfire do to something like no spark it still injects fuel into the cylinder but it doesnt burn because there is no spark. This unburnt fuel is force into the exhaust on the exhaust stroke. Unburnt fuel in the exhaust can over time overheat the cat(catalytic converter) causing it to melt down and pluging the exhaust. Worst case your cat will fail and you will have a loss of power. That is if thats the problem
extremely rough. I can literally feel (and hear) it running rougher. what would cause the engine to misfire? rather coincidental that it is -12 and then this happens
a lot of things can...bad coil(which is highly likely)fouled plugs, bad plugs, air fuel mix to rich or lean, opens in a # of different wires..I mean the list goes on. Its most likly going to be on the spark side of things just because the light was flashing. An easy way to tell if it is a coil is pull the codes and see what cylinders are misfiring. It will be like a p0302 or something. the last # indicates the cyl. after you find out the cyl. swap the coil with another cylinder and check the codes to see if that cyl. is misfiring now
Dont forget the Ignition Control Module, swap the coil packs. If the plug is wet and mis-firing, most probable is ignition. before buying a coil pack, swap the coils from a good cylinder to the bad cylinder and see if the miss-fire moves. If it does not move look at the ICM.
