What to do with 2k?
I am purchasing a 99 A4 1.8t awd Monday. I want to replace the timing belt, clean the oil screen, and do control arms and wheel bearings. Is there anything else to do? Where is the best place to order parts? Ok, so I am figuring I will have 2k left for performance parts after I do the DIY service on my car.
I was wanting to do a chip, bov, fmic, and full exhaust. What would ya'll do? Do I need to install all my parts then tell them what I have when I order the chip? How does that work? Lastly has anyone experimented with a port and polish on the stock turbo? Please be detailed with what you would do. I am new to the Euro cars.

chip just adjusts the timing and boost of the turbo, chip before or after doesn't make that much of a difference.
my first question is what are your hp plans/goal?
if your going to get a BT setup then you might want to wait on the chip/sw on your car.

Timing belt, front engine belts, water pump and thermostat.
Might as well do the cam seals as it only adds 15 minutes to the job.
Suck out the power steering fluid from the reservoir and put in fresh pentosin 11S. Do this a few times over the next couple of thousand miles.
Bleed the brake system and put in fresh DOT 4 brake fluid
Check the battery and top up with distilled water.
Change the gear oil in transmission and differentials.
Unless you have problems with the wheel bearings or control arms, leave them alone.
Whatever you spend, leave 1000 in the bank to take care of unexpected emergencies.
Depending on what you want to acheive, you will need to decide on what you want.
If you want moderate increase in power, a chip and exhaust will be good for about 200 HP give or take.
You wont need a FMIC unless you go much biger.

Absolutely - I'd also say set aside the amount needed to cover your deductible in the event some sack-wrinkle hits you while you're driving. That way you're not high-and-dry without the ability to cover your part of the repairs.
