Hello everyone,

I bought a used 2003 Audi A4 1.8T few months ago. The car was running fine, but recently it has been acting up a bit. Sometimes, when I start the car the RPM gauge will go high but no acceleration (car stuck in 1st gear) and the engine light comes on. If I turn the car off and on few times, the problem goes away and the car is fine. This problem happens once or twice every two weeks.

I went to my mechanic and he retrieved the following codes:

- P0722 Ouput speed sensor : no signal
- P0716 Input Turbine/Speed sensor A: range performance
- P0717 Input Turbine/Speed sensor A: no signal

My mechanic said the problem could be faulty wire connection (30% chance) or the Transmission Control Module (TCM) needs to be replaced (70% chance). He said that it will cost about $2200 to replace the TCM.

What do you guys think the problem is? Is it a serious problem? Will this effect the transmission in the long run?
