Default What is a knock sensor?

Just VAG'd my car and got a fault code of P0328. That's all very well and good, but WTF does:

Knock Sensor 1 Circuit High Bank 1 or Single Sensor
mean?

The check engine light came on today, and I just recently replaced the DV with a new Forge 007. Coincidence?

Thanks mates...

The knock sensor is supposed to monitor pre-ignition or (detonation)
I don't think the DV would have much to do with that code.
What kind of gas are you using?

The wet kind?

Just kidding. I can't remember but I want to say it was Chevron premium.

Check directly under the intake manifold next to where the thermostat housing is and check to see if the wire for the knock sensor is frayed or broken. If thats ok check your fuel trim with the VAG COM and make sure its around 0% when its running. I think its data block 32. Is the engine stock or are you chipped?

Right now I'm more or less stock. I was going to get the Revo stage 1 software this week, but the error code has me concerned. I will check out the wire and see if it looks frayed. Is this a sensor that could go bad? I'm concerned about this as I just did the DV. While its likely un-related it just doesn't sit well with me! My wife also thinks its my fault with all the tinkering I've been doing.

Nah, here's how you tell if the sensor is bad or detecting knock. Rule of thumb is if its detecting knock you will notice a lack of power due to the knock sensor retarding the timing,
or you won't feel any loss of power and the sensor is bad. The knock sensor does go bad every once in a while but its not common.

Cool. I'll take the car for a spin tomorrow and see if the power is sluggish. Is this a part I can replace myself if it is indeed bad?

Thanks!

Yeah if you have a couple of tools. You need a 13mm socket (wobley is easier 1/4) a 12 inch 1/4extension anda 1/4 ratchet. The torque however is very important so if you don't have torque wrench don't do it. It has to be torqued to exactly 20NM or the sensor will give the engine management faulty signals.

I was looking for an excuse to buy a torque wrench anyways. Recommendations?

Cheers,
