well, I have a 99.5 a4 1.8tq, i had my car for a couple of months now. Recently, i started smelling rubber burning and its was coming from the engine. i was wondering what should i check first, cause i dont know if the previous owner change the timing belt or the water pump. any suggestion? thanks

 

how many miles u got cause the timing belt and water pump need to changed before it hits 80K. I just did mine.

has it been changed before? if not id get it changed ASAP. Gunna run you some ching though.

 

Find where the smell is coming from. Could be as simple as oil spilled on the engine or leaking valve cover gasket.
