OMG this is funny.

That is friction tape, meant to help keep the vent unit in place and keep a good airtight seal. You can pull the vent, pull the tape, reapply and stick it the vent back in.

 

Before i bought my audi i test drove 4 other b5 and they all had the fabric coming out of the center vents

 

I fgured I wasn't the only one but I didn't think it happened to EVERYONE lol.

 

yea mine is doing it also, close to a quarter inch out already and i wa like WTF is this but i'll wait and see how far it will go

wow.. have never had this on my audi.. will keep you posted and maybe revise this thread from page 50 when it finally happens to me!!!

 

Its a 5 minute fix. Just fix it for God's sake.

 

yeah i think if you just cut it off, you might get a slight amount of vibration.. that after time would drive me nuts

 

anyone think its a bad idea to cut it out? because surgeryman79 said that the guy told him that it was to reduce vibration. Has anyone else cut it out?

 

seems like almost everyone has cut it out.. but just fix it it would only take a minute.. and would help it from coming out more.. otherwise your going to cut... wait a few months cut again.. etc etc etc.. just nip this problem in the but and fix it
